I bought a sewing machine and this is the first thing I did with it. I am a guy and I think I did okay for a first ever attempt. I wore that shirt many times and when I told people I did it myself they did not believe me. The Chinese characters say JIA NA DA REN. Together they mean CANADIAN. The three characters on the top are JIA NA DA and they “sound like” and mean CANADA. The character on the bottom is REN and it means person. So you get CANADA PERSON meaning CANADIAN. The border is also done with a close zigzag and its purpose was to cover and hide the edge of the beige fabric. I did the much longer zigzag inside the outer edge zigzag just for extra decoration and experimentation and creativity. I embroidered the characters onto the beige piece to make it easier to do and then I sewed the beige piece to the shirt. The next time I will do the embroidery right on the t-shirt. Since it was my first time ever I did not know how it would turn out and I did not want to waste a shirt. If you do it directly onto the shirt you may need some fabric on the inside so that the tee shirt material won’t wrinkle around the sewing.
